How to Prepare a Shoebox-2015

Help J-Jireh Ministries collect 4,000 Shoebox Christmas Gifts & Raise $50,000 for Children in Need!

J-Jireh’s Christmas Shoebox Challenge is Underway!

Our Christmas Shoebox Gift Challenge has officially kicked off. Our goals are to collect 4,000+ shoebox gifts this year and raise $50,000.

In 2016, we served 39 various Shelters, Foster Placement Agencies, Ministries and Organizations and gave away almost 3,000 custom filled gifts with many needed necessities, toys, clothes and personal items.

This year, in addition to the Shelters and Organizations we have already committed to, we have also adopted 2 churches from Rockport and 1 church from Houston whose families have lost dearly because of Hurricane Irma, some have lost everything. We will be providing gifts for children and teens, from infant to 17 years of age, to ease the burden and help with healing and recovery. All the gifts stay in Texas and most are delivered in and around San Antonio and our Hill Country.

How can YOU help?

  • Please consider leading an effort to gather shoebox gifts from your family, friends, church, schools and/or co-workers.
  • Join one of our great Teams in collecting gifts and donations.
  • Donate today!
  • Adopt a Shelter or Family by providing Christmas Shoebox Gifts specifically for them.
  • Help with delivering gifts, sorting, packing or labeling.
  • Help with wrapping shoeboxes or providing supplies and toys.

If you would like a poster that you can put up in your office or work place, please contact us at and let us know. We would be happy to provide one.

Gifts are accepted year-round but for this Christmas, please have your shoebox gifts ready no later than November 15th. They must be inspected, labeled, assigned and delivered before December 23rd.

Meet Kim Ghez a JJM Supporter & Could YOU be a Prayer Partner?

Looking for Prayer Partners – Could that be YOU?

One of the strongest ways to support the work of JJM is through committed prayer. There is so much power in agreement and unity and when coupled with a mustard seed of faith, it can produce much. Prayer is the supernatural backbone and power source of any Christ-centered organization. We are looking for a few good Prayer Partners. Would you consider partnering with us?
A JJM Prayer Partner is on the forefront of our Mission. Prayers go before us, stand with us and they become our rear guards to protect and secure. Our Partners will meet once per month to hear the latest news and updates and pray together. They will be expected to continue in specific prayer throughout the month. If you would like to become a Prayer Warrior for JJM, we’d love to hear from you.

Strength for your own personal life and enrichment will certainly come from being a part of this group. No matter where you are in your personal prayer life, this partnership could take you to greater heights. It doesn’t matter your age, religion or much else. What matters is that you have the love of Christ in your heart and you have a desire to speak to God on behalf of JJM. Thank you for answering the call and taking a step of faith. We open our arms to you…..

Greg’s Story of Unexpected Change & Blessings

A Choice Encounter

In 2010, Greg Jones had a choice encounter where he was at work at The Phyllis Browning Company, and two walk-in clients came in requesting someone to help them see a few pieces of property for a potential children’s shelter.  Greg spent that afternoon showing those clients, Lili Kristan and Dan Lindblom, different properties, getting to know them and learning more about J-Jireh Ministries.

Greg remarks that that day was a turning point in his life.  Originally, from Kentucky, but moving across the United States and parts of Canada, Greg had spent 30 years working in the retail home center business. He admits that he had become a bit callous especially, in regards to gift giving and the commercialism of the Christmas Season.  However, after learning of the Christmas Shoebox program that J-Jireh Ministries was trying to start at that time his heart became softened.  He learned that ½ million children in South Texas are or are in need of a foster home.  He also learned that Bexar county and the surrounding counties did not have the facilities necessary to adequately help these children.  Greg felt compelled get involved and help J-Jireh Ministries in their efforts to help those children who literally could not help themselves in that year’s Christmas Shoebox Challenge.  That one opportunity to serve changed Greg.  He has now become an integral member of the J-Jireh team.

Working with J-Jireh Ministries

Greg is now a board member for J-Jireh Ministries, as well as a yearly Team Leader for the Christmas Shoebox Challenge.  In the time that Greg has been helping with the Christmas Shoebox Challenge, he has seen the program grow from delivering personalized Christmas gifts to children in 4 shelters in San Antonio to 35 shelters in and around San Antonio!  People close to Greg will tell you that he selflessly devotes most of the month of November and ALL of December to helping collect, wrap, organize and deliver Shoebox Christmas gifts to all the shelters working with J-Jireh Ministries and their Christmas Shoebox Challenge.

Greg has also helped in recruiting other loyal J-Jireh Supporters like Linda Rudd, Jackie Browning, Gary Wolff, The Jones Real Estate Group, Kim Ghez, Don Walker & Presidio Title.  These partners have contributed as team leaders in the Christmas Shoebox Challenge and also donated to open the Open Arm Children’s Shelter.  Greg would love to be able to find more contributing partners who could donate time, talent or treasure to J-Jireh Ministries’ cause.

Lessons Learned

Greg has observed over his years of service to J-Jireh Ministries, that the reason the Christmas Shoebox challenge has been so successful and grown is because it is different than other Christmas donation programs.  J-Jireh Ministries and Lili Kristan, delivers a message about the true meaning of Christmas and they allow families to participate in delivering and passing out the personalized children’s gifts.  When a family participates in this way, children and parents learn to appreciate one another and to be grateful for the many blessings they have in their lives.  Children learn how to give, nurture and encourage each other and have an increased desire to help others.

Greg truly feels like he has been blessed due to his involvement with J-Jireh Ministries. In business-his real estate team has grown, socially-he has connected with wonderful people he would never have met before, and personally, Greg’s heart has been changed!  He is more giving, more charitable, more aware of the angels that protect and guide us and better understands prayer and how to pray.

J-Jireh Ministries is so very indebted to the generosity of Greg Jones. He is a wonderful, good, kind man, whose love for giving back and helping makes him a Christlike example to us all.

A Round of Applause For Our Supporter Puerta de Restauración

Puerta de Restauración and Pastor Rafael Gutiérrez have been, one of the many, fantastic supporters that J-Jireh Ministries has had the opportunity to work with.  This church has “adopted” Open Arms Children’s Shelter as one of their Home Missions and financially supports our cause monthly.

Puerta de Restauración’s involvement with JJM has awakened their awareness of the children in need in and around the San Antonio area.  Puerta de Restauración feels caring for the orphans is something that the Lord, Jesus has called each of us to do.

Puerta de Restauración donated over 150 gifts to our Christmas Shoebox Challenge and is looking forward to the opportunity to support our challenge again this year.

Puerta de Restauración has appreciated working with leaders within J-Jireh Ministries, like Lili Kristan.  They have found her motivation and passion inspires them to continue to reach higher and give more freely.

Puerta de Restauración is also anxiously awaiting the opportunity to help with the Open Arms Shelter that J-Jireh Ministries has planned to open.  They know there are many people who are looking for an opportunity to participate in this worthy cause and in a more ample way.  If you, or any one you know would like to donate to help J-Jireh Ministries establish the Open Arms Children’s Shelter, please click HERE.

Birdies for Children

Every year the Valero Texas Open raises millions of dollars for worthy causes through their Birdies for Charity program. This year, Open Arms Children’s Ranch was one of those worthy causes and because of the generous supporters that stand behind JJM, we have received a check to help abused and neglected children. We thank, love and sooooo appreciate the great people that partner with us.

Jackie Browning-Olsen spearheaded our Birdies for Children Campaign and we received a check for $17,239.04 for Open Arms. A fantastic job, Jackie! With her help, next year will be even greater.

If you love golf and want to help heal children with the love of Christ, please connect with us at Share your ideas or volunteer your time to help us grow. Dr. Carlos Ferreyro
La Vinia

A Helping Hand from Nueva Laredo Shelters & Dr. Carlos Ferreyro

This year for our “Day of The Child” holiday, J- Jireh Ministries teamed up with two local ministries; one which supports a community of impoverished families and the other a children’s orphanage, both in Nuevo Laredo. We donated over 100 shoebox gifts for the children.

The families were so grateful that they handmade a large Thank You sign for us.

These families have so little, most exist on $25-$30 per week on a good week. Many are single mothers with very little or no assistance. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to donate gifts, necessities and clothing to them.

More importantly, they were given prayer, love, teaching and direction from the Word of God. Several received a physical healing and all received encouragement, emotional healing and a good meal that day.

JJM also sent 150 gifts, clothing and computers to a church in Laredo, Texas that ministers to families on both sides of the border.

If you would like to help us clothe, feed and provide necessities to the poor and more importantly, heal hearts with the love of Christ, contact JJM today and let’s get you plugged in. There are many ways in which one can support this vision. From the greatest to the least of these, every contribution is needed and becomes a vital building block for us. Thank you and may God bless and prosper you and your loved ones.

But whoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or tongue only but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:17 & 18

One of J-Jireh’s vital supporters who has taken literally the message of 1 John 3:17-18 is Dr. Carlos Ferreyro.  Dr. Ferreyro has expertise in Counseling, Psychology, Philosophy, and Business. Dr. Ferreyro holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy Research in the field of Psychology and an M.A. in Psychology. Additionally, he has more than 25 years experience in International marketing across the United States and Latin America. Dr. Ferreyro led a team of relief caregivers during a major earthquake in Mexico. His team provided a fleet of trucks loaded with food, clothing, medical supplies, and other relief items for earthquake victims.  More recently, he has been serving as a J-Jireh Ministries Board Member and as a  Team Leader in our annual Christmas Shoebox Gift Challenge. He and his church, La Viña Ministries, collected over 350 gifts for our Christmas Shoebox Challenge.  Carlos also assisted with conducting the presentation and delivering to several Shelters. Several members of his congregation from the church came to the workshop to aid in wrapping, inspecting, labeling and packaging gifts.  They have been and continue to be, an awesome support to us with this challenge!

This past Christmastime, a donor stepped up from our Shoebox Christmas Program. They were participating in the program via their office building and had enrolled their company to participate. Initially, their goal was to contribute to the shoeboxes as one of their many donation collections they run that time of year.

As they prepared to share the program details with their employees they attended an informational meeting. In this meeting, they talked about things to give in the shoeboxes, such as personal care items, combs, toothbrushes, and more. But they also talked about how many kids the shoeboxes would help- 3,000. In this meeting, they learned that there are over 6,000 homeless children in Bexar County. A shockingly high number for anyone’s backyard.

After the meeting, the owners, Candy & Ajay Gupta decided to give their annual donation of $10,000 all to Open Arms Children’s Shelter. We were able to catch up with Candy recently to ask her a few questions about her donation. Here is what she had to say:

“Every year we donate to causes that we are passionate about, and thisyear we learned just how big the homeless children population in Bexar County is- we felt compelled to do something about it. Many of our employees got involved as well. Some contributed time for the Christmas Shoebox challenge, other’s donated shoeboxes, and other’s have volunteered time to other areas.

Participating in the Shoebox program gave me an opportunity to spend family time preparing shoeboxes and teaching my son about the importance of giving. It’s great tradition to start with families to remember how fortunate most people are and to appreciate what we have. We’re definitely planning on participating again.”

Thanks to Stirista and the Gupta’s for their continued and generous support. It’s donors like this that make our work possible and for that, we are truly grateful.

J-Jireh’s Open Arms Children’s Ranch & Our Supporters Kim Keener & Jill Strauss

Did you know that there are thousands of children and teens on a waiting list to get a bed in a children’s shelter or find a loving foster Home?  J-Jireh Ministries is dedicated to establishing their own children’s shelter the Open Arms Children’s Ranch and Foster Placement Agency. These facilities are urgently needed to serve the children of San Antonio and surrounding areas.

Sadly, Bexar County is second in the state of Texas when it comes to repeat offenders of abuse, neglect, and abandonment of children. The destruction of families and precious little souls is creating havoc in our schools, churches, neighborhoods and societies at large. How can children grow into productive, healthy and loving adults when they have no frame of reference for that? When they come from abusive and dysfunctional environments, that is all they know how to replicate.

Open Arms Children’s Ranch will be a safe haven where children and teens will be taught a foundational platform of unconditional love and acceptance.

This will also be a place where wholesome healing can come to the mind, body, and soul. Positive role modeling and healthy relationships can also be emulated. Here they will learn various avenues of constructive expression and communication skills.

If you would like to be an integral part of making this possible, contact J-Jireh Ministries TODAY and let’s discuss how you can make a notable contribution. There are many ways in which you can support this vision. From the greatest to the least of these, every contribution is needed and becomes a vital building block. Help us build a legacy of loving, healthy and productive children and families.

With men it may be impossible, but with God, all things are possible.”

J-Jireh Ministries has been blessed to work with some fantastic community supporters.  These supporters have a shared vision with J-Jireh Ministries and work to make all our endeavors a success.  Two supporters, in particular, are Kim Keener and Jill Strauss of Magi Real Estate Services.San Antonio office space

Kim Keener is the Senior Property Manager for Magi which includes The Atrium, 10010 San Pedro Building, and the Brass Professional Center, San Antonio’s largest multi-tenant office complex. Kim has 9 years of experience in commercial property management, and over 11 years of experience in the real estate industry. During her career, Kim has managed over 1.3 million square feet of property, including the largest office complex in the City of San Antonio.

Jill Strauss serves as the Vice President and is responsible for all the leasing and brokerage operations for the company. Jill joined Magi Real Estate Services in 2007.  Jill is responsible for handling an office portfolio in excess of 1,000,000 square feet! Jill has completed more than $50 million in real estate transactions and has extensive experience in landlord representation, new lease negotiations, and lease restructuring, market and financial analysis.

Kim & Jill worked together as the team leads for the Magi Team for our Christmas Shoebox Gift Challenge.  They collected gifts and donations, donated over $45,000 storage and workshop space. The donation of storage space was so incredibly appreciated because of the large volume of Shoebox Christmas Gifts we received.  Having a place to sort, organize and distribute the gifts from helped make our Christmas Shoebox Gift program very successful.
